The Dwarikas Group of Hotels and Resorts is Nepals premier hospitality brand. It manages some of Nepals finest properties, including The Dwarikas Kathmandu a winner of the PATA Heritage Award and the INTACH-SATTE Heritage Award. The groups mission is to provide a unique brand of Nepali hospitality which supports and promotes Nepals rich and diverse heritage.
The Dwarikas Kathmandu is a heritage hotel that takes its inspiration from the architectural grandeur of Newari royal palaces. The hotel houses an extensive collection of artefacts from the 13th century onwards and preserves the aesthetic sensibility of a unique civilisation. The elegant courtyards, buildings and rooms contain some of Nepals best craftsmanship, capturing the beauty and spirit of an ancient city. For its pioneering work in preserving Kathmandus heritage, the hotel has won the PATA Heritage Award and the INTACH-SATTE Award. The amalgamation of Nepals heritage together with its longstanding tradition of hospitality makes The Dwarikas Kathmandu an intimate experience of a refined Nepali lifestyle.
Our commitment to heritage conservation dates back to 1952, when the founder of the hotel, the late Dwarika Das Shrestha, witnessed carpenters sawing off the intricately carved portions of an old wooden pillar for use as firewood. Struck by a sense of anguish at the destruction of his own heritage, he salvaged the old pillar and gave the men new lumber. What began as an impulsive action grew into a passion, and soon Dwarika Das Shresthas commitment to saving, documenting and restoring artefacts took on a life of its own. Faced with the problem of storing these works, he decided to construct a building in the ancient Newari style of Kathmandu using the rescued carvings. He envisioned that this new building, which would operate as a guest house, would allow more people to appreciate Nepals ancient cultural history, giving the restored treasures a new lease of life. The vision behind The Dwarikas Hotel as a living museum was thus born.
With 88 meticulously designed rooms and suites, the Dwarikas Kathmandu offers a regal experience. Each room is spacious and has been individually designed to blend intricate Nepali design motifs with a contemporary lifestyle. Interspersed with original artworks that are centuries old, the rooms are a tribute to Nepals artistic history.
Remaining true to the earthiness of traditional life in the valley, the rooms capture such an essence without compromising on quality and luxury. The flooring is either handmade traditional Nepali terracotta tiles or individually laid wooden panels. The furniture is custom designed and handmade by carpenters whose ancestors created the works that make up the essence of the hotel. The upholstery is hand woven and locally produced, and the linen is organic. The attention to detail and personal service will make you want to stay on and on.
Staying at The Dwarikas Kathmandu is to experience true Nepali hospitality and culture. The hotel upholds the Nepali values of respect and sincerity towards guests, combined with the natural warmth of the Nepali people. Utilising a variety of indigenous Himalayan herbs and treatments, The Dwarikas Pancha Kosha Himalayan Spa draws on an ancient and traditional knowledge of care giving. Nepali customs dictate that a guest is akin to a god and should be treated with such reverence and courtesy. The Dwarikas continues this tradition through refined and personalised service, resulting is an atmosphere of genuine care.
